LOGISTICS, EQUIPMENT AND SUPPORT SERVICES

Logistics/Equipment

Logistics deals with the procurement, distribution, maintenance, and replacement of material for the labor dispute. What follows is a listing of generic items that may be necessary during this type of situation.

Please remember that the site specifications for each labor dispute could vary dramatically which means this list will need to be altered by adding, changing or deleting these various items to meet the current needs.

Cell Phones
Cell phones are necessary for notifying emergency services as well as to reach a supervisor or a client representative in the event or a problem or incident.

Radios
Two-way radios are necessary for “talk-around” purposes between posts and/or patrols. This enables all officers on shift at one time to speak to one another in case of problems, issues, to check in, etc. There should be spare radios assigned to the account as well.

Video Cameras
Video cameras may be issued so officers will have the ability to videotape incidents. Indiscriminate videotaping should be avoided as it can be interpreted as harassment.

Still Cameras
Still cameras, most likely a 35mm, may also be issued so officers will have the ability to photograph scenes or incidents. Again indiscriminate photographing should be avoided as it can be interpreted as harassment.

Audio Recorders
Audio recorders may also be issued so officers will have the ability to record voice conversations. As with the video and photography indiscriminate recording should be avoided as it can be interpreted as harassment.

Lighting
The lighting of the facility may not be sufficient enough for the night portion of the strike operation. Additional lighting may be needed at any gate, or driveway, that is used during a work stoppage. This additional lighting is essential in order to provide an adequate environment to allow effective videotaping.

Barricades
Barricades such as a-frame barriers, traffic cones, medium barriers, bollards, drums, etc. can be used to either block or bottleneck high traffic areas. This can be effective and limiting vehicle or pedestrian ingress to a facility.
